What this edition can honestly say

Mac Mouse Fixer did not previously collect the click-level measurements needed for a defensible comparison across mouse brands or models. This baseline edition therefore publishes the test, classification rules, export format, and minimum sample requirements before any reliability table is released.

Publishing the protocol first makes future results reproducible and prevents a handful of support cases from being presented as market-wide evidence.

Measurement

How the diagnostic works

The browser test records the elapsed time between trusted primary-pointer press events. Participants are asked to make 30 relaxed single clicks with a short pause between clicks. An interval of 100 milliseconds or less is marked as rapid.

One rapid interval is classified as possible chatter because deliberate fast clicking can create the same signal. Two or more rapid intervals are classified as repeated rapid signals, but a second test is still recommended.

Recommendation logic

How the debounce suggestion is calculated

When rapid signals are present, the tool takes the longest suspicious interval, adds 20 milliseconds of headroom, and rounds up to the next 10 milliseconds. Browser recommendations are limited to a range of 30–200 milliseconds.

This is a conservative starting point, not a universal ideal. A filter that is unnecessarily high can interfere with intentional fast clicking, so users should start low and retest.

Publication standard

When model-level findings will appear

The first comparative edition will not be published until the dataset meets all of these gates:

  • At least 100 valid completed tests in total
  • At least 20 valid tests before naming an individual mouse model
  • Duplicate, automated, incomplete, and intentionally rapid tests removed
  • Results separated by model instead of assigning one score to an entire brand
  • Sample size shown beside every percentage

Future editions will report the share of samples with repeated rapid signals, interval distributions, and suggested filter ranges. They will also document collection dates and exclusions.

Privacy and access

Local by default

The current diagnostic processes click timings locally and does not submit results to Mac Mouse Fixer. Participants can download a JSON result to inspect or share voluntarily. No community dataset is silently assembled from the test.
